Government of Rajasthan has taken the initiative to automate the Hospitals in the state to improve the patient care. eHealth or ‘Arogya Online’ is the electronic management of health information to deliver safer, more efficient, better quality healthcare to the citizens of the state. This landmark initiative is facilitating the transition of paper-based clinical record keeping to electronic means for better information exchange.
The MoUs for replication of ‘Arogya Online’ project at J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer and Sardar Patel Medical College, Bikaner were signed on July 27, 2012 in the presence of Sh. Mukesh Sharma, Principal Secretary, Medical Education Department, Sh. Shreemat Pandey, Principal Secretary, IT & C Department and Sh. Sanjay Malhotra, Secretary and Commissioner, IT & C Department.
This five year project is divided into four phases in which J.L.N Medical College, Ajmer and Sardar Patel Medical College, Bikaner and its associated hospitals are covered. A budget of Rs. 895.14 Lacs and Rs. 767.22 Lacs have been sanctioned to provide IT-based administrative and medical services.
The customization and implementation of the system at Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur has been successfully completed. The software for the system has been customized for SMSH, Jaipur over the past two years. The integrated solution manages Hospitals Central Lab, OPD, IPD, OT’s, Drug Store and Blood Bank as well as the treatment modalities offered by more than 44 clinical & non-clinical departments, 70+ wards with 2500+ beds. The system also manages an avg. of 5500-6000 no. of OPD patients on daily basis and approx. 12000 daily investigations with errorless reporting mechanism. The patients and their relatives are getting substantial benefits as waiting time has been considerably reduced, facility of OPD, admission, investigation billing, sample collection, free medicine distribution through DDCs, providing investigation reports of all patients on internet and much more.
‘Arogya Online’ is to be customized and replicated across all Medical Colleges & Attached Hospitals as per announcement made by Hon’ble Chief Minister in his Budget Speech 2009-10 (point no. 170)
Tripartite MOUs for four Medical Colleges at Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur & Kota have already been signed.
In the meeting, Sh. Shreemat Pandey shared that ‘Arogya Online’ would provide the highest level of flexibility and operational efficiency for a hospital. For extending the benefits of the project to citizens doorstep efforts are being made to connect ‘Arogya Online’ with CSC’s which would also result in unnecessary crowd in the hospital premises. He further added that the system performs complex tasks like investigation billing, ward management, blood bank automation with bio-metric identification for blood donors, pharmacy & drug management and various other related activities which would ultimately help the patients to take tension free treatment in the hospitals.
Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Director (Technical), RISL and Sh. Tapan Kumar, ACP (Dy. Director), IT&C presented the latest status of the project along with its important features that have benefited patients at various levels.
In the end, Sh. Shreemat Pandey presented Rajasthan e-Gov Champion 2010 Award to Dr. G.N. Saxena, Prof. and Nodal Officer, SMS Hospital, Jaipur for successful implementation of the project at SMS Hospital, Jaipur.
